Features full octagon barrel with full length magazine, blue and case colored finish and two piece varnished walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. The .22 rimfire Model 1873 Winchester was the first successful endeavor of a repeating rifle in the .22 caliber. Just under 20,000 of these rifles where produced by Winchester and they are rarely found in good functioning condition. Used on farms and ranches for small game, rodent control and as a general purpose tool the survival rate is extremely low. Good overall with all blue finish having turned a light brown patina. Walnut stocks are solid with slight darkening from oil, handling and use. Bore has a contemporary liner installed and is bright with sharp rifling. Mechanics are functioning well with exception of dust cover that fails to open with retraction of bolt, and hammer follows bolt forward if operated quickly. Accompanied with a factory letter from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center validating the rifles configuration as Rifle; Caliber: .22 L; Octagon Barrel; 26"; plain trigger and shipped from warehouse February 1892.
