Features round carbine barrel with rare and desirable side mounted sling swivels and ladder rear sight graduated in meters for the French World War I contract. Little is known of the 15,100 carbines acquired by the French during World War I. These Carbines where issued to Motorcycle Troopers, Balloon Units and Railway Troops. Rarely encountered but when found typically they have Belgian proofs that where installed at time of export when sold as surplus. This example is very fine as most examples are very hard used and neglected. 50% thinning blue finish remains with balance turning plumb. Two piece walnut stocks are very good as period refinished. Bore and mechanics are very good. This is certainly one of the rarest of all variations of the Winchester Model 1894 and also one of the rarest of all French Military rifles.
