This Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine with two line Winchester address and two position early carbine rear sight is embellished with engraving of large vine and scroll with a foliate arabesque and a dot punch background. This embellishment amounts to full coverage on both left and right sides with matching foliate on tang and a rope border, encompassing the entire tang and upper receiver and finished with a clamshell design forward of ejection port. Signed on the bottom "LDN" giving on the impression that this work was performed by noted master engraver Louis D. Nimschke, whose masterful work has been found on some of the finest of all Winchester. The gun metal brass receiver and butt have remnants of a silver plated finish from some much earlier time. Approximately 40% remains with thinning in other areas and worn through in others. Two piece walnut stocks have had a contemporary finish applied, however stocks still remain proud with little evidence of sanding. Most all contemporary blue finish on barrel and magazine remain. Bore is moderately dark with strong rifling. Mechanics are functional however, lever lock is not present. Barrel is slightly loose as is butt. This is a very attractive Winchester carbine.
