Factory engraved with dual vignettes of games scenes. Left has a bounding Dall sheep surrounded by a chiseled border and traditional arabesque scrolls with additional scroll filled border. The right side is more elaborately embellished with a vignette of a pair of deer grazing in the forefront of a rolling pasture. A dual line border with arabesque scroll and additional scroll filled borders encompass the entire side of the receiver. A fine engraved scroll and border are to be found on the top of the chamber area of the barrel as well as the heel of the buttplate. Matching borders are engraved on the tang as well. The deluxe flame cut crotch American walnut stocks are at the least a triple X grade of select wood and are checkered in the elaborate "E" pattern of checkering for highly finished Winchester rifles. The stocks are further finished in a piano varnish and a small ebony tip in the forearm. Rifle is very fine overall with over 95% factory blue finish remaining upon the barrel. The receiver has thinned substantially with blue finish remaining in protected areas and balance has turned a mellow patina. Magazine area has a loss of finish in the 20% range from honest carry and use. The wood stocks are very fine as the highly figured walnut and varnish do show numerous small period scratches and abrasions but are very fine overall. This is an extremely uncommon rifle as the Model 1895 Winchester was very infrequently embellished, and the amount and style of the engraving on this example is what is known as $25.00 engraved. This would be the centerpiece of any well established Winchester collection. Factory letter states that serial No. 66769 was applied October 15th, 1909 with no other information.
