This 1878 Colt Hammer shotgun is a late example of this model with Damascus barrels and line engraved frame. Usual rib inscription on the plain top rib which has a brass front bead. Unengraved receiver is marked "Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co." on both sides. Buttstock is checkered in three point pattern through the wrist and has a round knob grip with vacant oval near toe and terminates in what appears to be its original Colt hard rubber buttpad. Forearm with Deeley release and ebony triangular tip is checkered in two point pattern. Fair condition. Barrels retain approximately 30% original damascus pattern bores with heavy pitting. Action is loose. Buttstock with repairs around action and checkering worn mostly smooth and shows scratches and impressions throughout. Forearm with chipping near tip shows traces of original checkering and tip has been reglued. There is wood missing near the tip. A great candidate for restoration.
