This is a standard U.S. issue Saddle Ring Carbine. Standard blued 1884 Buffington rear sight, original saddle ring bar and ring, serrated trigger, and single band. Buttplate with trap door and marked "US". Casehardened block is stamped “U.S. / MODEL / 1873”, as the old stock blocks were used until they were depleted in 1887. Lock with standard Springfield markings. Left side of walnut stock has a clear "SWP / 1886" cartouche for inspector Sam W. Porter and deep encircled script "P" behind trigger guard tang. Standard carbine blued steel furniture. This is a very good, solid, all original 1884 trapdoor carbine in excellent overall condition. Barrel, lock and furniture retain 90-95% original blue finish with some areas of light storage wear and scattered marks, some minor freckling. Action is strong and bore is shiny and excellent. Block and tang retain almost all of original bright case colors. Ring bar shows some wear and losses to finish. Wood is very good with a few scattered marks from use. An excellent high condition 1884 carbine.
