A total of about 73,000 Model 1873 types were made between 1873 and 1877. Blued, round rifled steel barrel with small V / P/ (eagles head) on left side near breech. Fitted with correct four-step Cadet ramp sight. Breech block stamped "MODEL / 1873 / (eagle) / US". Lockplate blued and stamped in center with large eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873". Correct Cadet Model furniture with no sling swivel on trigger guard. Buttplate tang stamped "12 / US". Walnut stock with clear "ESA" cartouche on left side for Erskin S. Allin. Stock also stamped "44" twice behind barrel tang and in front of buttplate tang. Right side of buttstock features a tacked brass plaque with the number 127. This is a scarce period correct Model 1873 Cadet in very good condition. Barrel retains approximately 80% blue finish, somewhat turned to brown. Bore has clear rifling and some minor black powder corrosion. Case colors on breech block have mostly turned to brown and silver. Lockplate retains about 80% thinning and fading blue finish. Furniture has traces of blue, mostly turned to brown. Stock is very good with excellent cartouche and a few light, scattered marks; has been varnished.
