Produced between 1879 and 1899 with 84,555 made, this example manufactured in 1884. Blued barrel with bayonet lug/front sight mounted on top, near muzzle and Winchester markings on top, near center. Adjustable ramp rear sight, breech stamped "U.S. / VP / D.F.C." for inspector David F. Clark. Casehardened Third Model action with blued and polished bolt. Action tang marked "Model of 1883" and triggerguard tang stamped with patent dates, left side of action stamped "U.S. / D.F.C.". Casehardened buttplate stamped "U.S." Two piece walnut stock, right side of wrist stamped behind action with "DFC" cartouche for David F. Clark and left side with "JCA" for inspector James C. Ayres. Excellent condition, overall. Strong action and excellent shiny bore. Barrel retains 95-98% original blue finish with some muzzle wear, a few scattered scratches, and some light surface freckles. Action retains about 85-90% original case colors, some areas faded. Buttplate retains most of case colored surface. Stock very good with some scattered storage marks. Small parts retain 50-80% blued finish with some thinning. A very nice scarce martially marked Winchester Hotchkiss musket.
