There were only about 770 of these made for the U.S. Army. Round blued steel barrel retained by two bands, breech stamped "U.S. / V / P." and "D.F.C." for inspector David F. Clark. Front sight/bayonet lug and adjustable rear sight graduated from 1,400 to 200 yards. Blued action with proper Remington and Lee markings, serial number, "U.S." on right side and "D.F.C." on top. Blued magazine with two grooves on each side. Steel furniture and "U.S." marked buttplate. Walnut stock stamped "6 / D.F.C." and script "P" behind trigger guard. Left side of buttstock stamped with large "46 / B / NB". Complete with correct steel cleaning rod. This rare martial longarm is in very good condition, overall. The barrel retains about 90-95% original blue finish with some thinning and a few small areas turning to brown. Action retains a mostly grey patina with generous traces of original finish in protected areas. Markings are excellent, action is strong and functions well, bore excellent and shiny. Magazine retains about 70-80% thinning blue finish and furniture mostly turned to grey with generous traces of blue in protected areas. Stock very good, markings are clear, some scattered marks from use. This is a desirable U.S. marked rifle in much finer than average condition!
