Manufactured during the first true year of production, this pistol features the early bright commercial type finish with brighter blue small parts. It has a first type slide with the last patent date 1911 and a pony and circle at left rear. Type I front and rear sights. Right side of slide stamped "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY". Left side of frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the WGP inspector stamp in circle used on 1912 manufacture as seen on Colt 1911 pistol, representing Walter G. Penfield. Correct early parts include: long smooth trigger, wide spur checkered hammer, checkered slide stop, checkered safety, smooth mainspring housing with lanyard ring, diamond checkered walnut grips, and two tone tempered keyhole magazine with loop. This keyhole magazine is listed as the Type II with "Punch and Slot" to prevent cracking. The barrel is a replacement and is not marked in any way with the exception of a five, but does have a fine bore. Overall the gun retains between 75-80% original factory blue finish, sharp legends, mainspring housing is freckled as are high edges of slide and muzzle. A very fine, nice condition, all original, first year U.S. Army 1911 with improper barrel being its only major fault.
