In 1924, a single run of 10,000 pistols were manufactured for the United States government; this was the first order of the new Model 1911A1, making it one of the shortest productions years for U.S. Army contract pistols. In addition to the new arched mainspring housing with lanyard, all other parts are typical pre-war with checkered wide spur hammer, first year of short checkered trigger, first issue of checkered walnut grips without diamonds. Comes with Commercial style tempered blued magazine with pinned base. Has a blued barrel stamped with "G" at base. Right side of slide is stamped "MODEL OF 1911 US ARMY". Left side of slide has the 1913 patent date with center pony. Right side of frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Left side of frame bears the inspector mark "WTG" for Walter T. Gorton who inspected pistols 700001 to 710000; this is the later stamped surrounded in circle. This pistol is in near new condition inside and out, showing virtually no use and retaining nearly all of the factory military brush blue finish. Appears to have never been fired or issued. This has to be the finest condition 1924 U.S. Army extant as it would be impossible to find another. It does not even have a takedown line and shows no signs of any muzzle or slide wear. Grip straps are 100%. Extremely scarce opportunity to purchase one of the rarest U.S. issue Colts. CORRECTION: Colt 1911, Completely refinished - listed as so by Doug Turnbull list.
