Referred to as the Highway Patrolman, it was introduced in April 1954 and built on the square butt N target frame with four screws, pinned barrel recessed chambers, dull factory blue finish, adjustable rear sight, ramp front sight, case colored trigger and hammer, and silver disc gold medallion checkered walnut grips (not numbered). Left side of frame is stamped "SFPD" (San Francisco Police Department). Gun has been used with a light drag line, high edge muzzle wear and some overall high edge wear. Still retains 97% original factory finish. Excellent grips. Fine bore and action. These police marked big frame Smith's have become an exciting collectors sub-category as very few were made.
