Only 1,001 made around 1880 with a similar configuration to the Model 1879, other than the sliding triangular combination ramrod-bayonet fitted at the muzzle. This model was made for trial by government troops and was the first trapdoor model to use the ramrod-bayonet design. Butt has sliding compartment for tools. This example falls within the correct serial number range. This example has an 1884 Buffington rear sight and most components have been reblued. Breech block markings worn, muzzle may be shortened slightly. Stock has been sanded and refinished, cartouche not visible. Action is strong and bore is good with some scattered light corrosion.
