Rare No. 4 weight full octagon barrel with desirable Winchester globe front sight and elevator adjusted semi-buckhorn sporting rear sight. Vividly case colored flatside receiver with case colored hammer, lever and breech block. Factory varnished two piece walnut stocks with Schnabel forearm tip. Chambered for the .38 Express cartridge (.38-90). This short rifle chambered for the powerhouse .38 Express would certainly explain the ordering a heavy No. 4 weight barrel to soften the recoil. Short rifle variations of the Winchester 1885 are rare indeed, finding them in exceptional condition is certainly another thing. This example is stunning condition with vivid case colors on receiver hammer and breech block. The barrel blue is outstanding with most all remaining with a less than 5% loss of finish at the crowns of the octagon flats. The bore is exceptional, being bright and shiny with crisp rifling. The wood is equally fine with most all of the factory varnish remaining with only a few very minor detraction of several small period scratches on belly of forearm and several similar scratches on buttstock. This is am exceedingly rare and desirable variation of the Model 1885 Winchester and would be very difficult to improve upon. CORRECTION: Factory research confirms every feature. Rifle shipped February 24th, 1888.
