This high grade Infantry Officer's sword features a slightly curved steel blade with two partial fullers on each side and etched panels of 23" on both sides. The right side with an eagle, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner, hearts, foliate and floral scrolls and a patriotic shield with arms as well as "Ames Mfg Co/ Chicopee/ Mass" on ricasso. The other side with a large "US" as well as splays of arms and foliate scrolls. The gilt brass hilt features a pierced guard decorated with chased floral scrolls on both sides and a knucklebow decorated en suite. Chagrin wrapped grip with twisted brass wire. Complete with original scabbard wrapped with black chagrin and featuring gilt brass mounts decoration with applied chased wreaths at the end of each mount. Ring mounts chased with repeating foliate designs. Left side of throat mount is stamped with Ames markings. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. Blade retains a spotted grey patina with some minor wear to high edges. Hilt and scabbard mounts retain 95-98% of original gilt finish. Grip and scabbard are excellent. This is a desirable and scarce Model 1850 Officer's saber in fantastic condition.
