Full octagon barrel, full magazine, forearm cap is gold plated has sling swivel attached, receiver is engraved and gold plated. The Ulrich engraved frame, buttplate, and forearm cap is done with distinctive flavor. Even to the panel scenes and borders. Although unsigned, this would rate very high in executing the panels scene. This info can be found on pages 30, 31 and 81 of "The Winchester Engraving Book" by R. L. Wilson. Here he states that the tang is marked "CGXXX" indicating deluxe treatment. Loading gate is of a bright Nitre blue, hammer is case colored as well as trigger and lever. Mounted with an early period tang sight. Stock is of a deluxe grade American walnut that is so marked on bottom tang. Buttplate is engraved on the upper flange. Bottom of stock also with a sling swivel attached. Front sight is of a globe type with a Henry ladder rear sight for 900 yards. Barrel address reads "WINCHESTERS REPEATING ARMS NEW HAVEN CT. / KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENT MARCH 29, 1866 OCTOBER 16, 1860". Comes with a period tang sight. Barrel retains 90-95% blue with only the sharp edges showing any wear at all. Rear part of barrel shows a little surface discoloration on the left and right flat. Magazine tube retains a good 93-96% blue with only the ends showing any wear. Also has some surface discoloration around the magazine tube guide ring. Stock is of deluxe grade and has few light scratches with a few impressions on left side. Right side of stock also with a few impressions and a few light scratches on high parts of stock as well as a hairline crack that has been expertly repaired is apparent from tang down just past middle of stock with no wood loss. Wood to metal fit is very fine. Bore is very fine with deep rifling, bright and shiny. Mechanics are fine, cycles correctly. Overall condition all original, very fine. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
