Full octagon barrel with "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. / KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENT MARCH 28, 1866 OCTOBER 16, 1860". Full magazine, engraved forearm cap has a sling eye mounted in nose cap and a sling eye mounted on bottom of stock. Engraving is a deep relief type engraving with no signatures on bottom tang. Wood is of a "XXX" and all numbers matching. Case colored hammer, trigger, and lever. Barrel retains 85-90% orig blue with balance turning medium to dark patina. Magazine is 50% original blue and balance to a light to medium patina. Magazine guide ring is 85-90% bright blue. Left side of receiver retains 90-95% gold plated finish. Right side is 94-96% gold plating with loading gate at 60-70% bright Nitre blue. Case colored hammer retains 40-50% case colors with balance turning dark patina. Lever has case colors only in protected areas and the balance a dark patina. Trigger is also a dark patina. "XXX" wood looks to have had another coat of finish applied over the original. Light surface scratches remain on both sides with some marring and dings around upper tang on both sides. Buttplate retains 85-90% of its gold plating. Forearm cap is engraved with 85-90% gold plating remaining. Forearm is also with added finish, a few light scratches on both left and right sides, no wood missing on front or rear of forearm. All screws retain a fine to very fine condition. Tang sight has 90-95% orig finish remaining. Bright shiny bore, light surface pitting with deep rifling. Rifle cycles and mechanics are fine. From the Ray Bentley Collection. CORRECTION: It has come to our attention that the buttstock has at some earlier time been replaced and that the forearm was refinished to match.
