Round barrel with ramped bead front sporting sight and semi-buckhorn elevator adjustable rear sight. Traditional two line Winchester address with ".405 WCF" chamber marking. Takedown configuration with blue finish overall including hammer, lever and buttplate. Two piece straight grained American walnut stocks with the factory applied varnish. The .405 was made famous by Theodore Roosevelt while on safari and he referred to it as his "Big Medicine". Many of the 1895 rifles of this period suffered from an issue with the finish flaking on the receiver. Excellent overall with most all factory applied finishes remaining with virtually no indication of actual use. Barrel retains over 98% of its original blue finish with only loss at very corner of muzzle. Receiver is nearly as fine with a slight drag line of wear from the magazine have been opened and a very small corner rub at top rear of receiver the size of 3mm in diameter. The stocks are outstanding several minor storage or age bruises. The factory applied varnish is entirely intact. This is the finest condition one could ever hope to find. Bore is excellent and as new. Mechanics are crisp and functional. Believed to be impossible to improve upon. Factory research states: serial number applied October 2nd, 1923; no other information available. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
