Approximately 25,000 Model 1863 percussion muskets were converted to .50 CF with addition of a liner tube and still retains three barrel bands. The casehardened US Springfield lock is dated "1864" with the standard 1863 musket rear sight. Metal is finished in the white; block is stamped "1866" with eagle head. Has the shield checkered hammer, full length walnut stock, cartouche on left side"HSH" for inspector Henry S. Hill, standard Model 1863 furniture. Wood is very good with some minor scattered marks, metal retains a mostly grey patina with some scattered marks from use, lock retains faded and silvered case colors. Markings and cartouche are excellent overall. Action is fine and strong. Excellent shiny bore.
