Manufactured late 1864. 30" round barrel with fixed blade front sight and ladder adjustable rear sight. Two piece American walnut stocks with military steel butt plate and two sling swivels attached at heel and toe of butt. Chambered for the .50 caliber rim fire cartridge with a unique tubular magazine located in the butt stock. Magazine capacity was seven rounds. Manufactured by the Meriden Manufacturing Company in Meriden, Connecticut with a very limited production of an estimated 3000, 30" rifles total. A shorter variation with a 22" barrel was contracted during the tail end of the Civil War for the state of Kentucky but they where produced to late to be issued. The Meriden Manufacturing Company went on to be the famed Parker Brothers shotgun company. Very good overall with an abundance of the original deft soft rust blue finish remaining. The receiver has turned a mellow chocolate patina with several small scratches evident on both sides of the receiver. A very small "KENTUCKY" marking is found on the left side of the rotating breech. Tang is marked "Triplett & Scott Pat'd 1864". Left side of receiver is marked "Meriden manufacturing co Meriden Conn". Stocks are very good with a frequently found stock crack located at the internal magazine area as well as a small crack emanating from the left side of the tang. This apparently was one of the inherent problems with this design. Bore is very good with sharp rifling. Serial numbered 678. The action functions properly.
