This musket was apparently part of the Emmor K. Adams Collection in the early 20th century. The musket is in the black and completely dry and in "as found" attic condition. Features a massive iron octagonal heavily swamped barrel without markings. Large lock is probably French and marked AIR/MRG" in center, in original flintlock configuration. Large iron furniture in the early French style, barrel band nearest muzzle is clearly hand-forged. Flat serpentine sideplate deeply marked "JG 1776". Stock is in the early French or New England form. Complete with large iron ramrod. All iron components retain a heavy brown patina, lock markings very good, sideplate lightly cleaned around markings. Stock has scattered marks from use and some losses and splintering along left side of forend, near barrel. A very early and unusually large Revolutionary War period musket in spectacular untouched condition!
