Patrick Smith was a 19th century maker located in Buffalo, New York and is listed between 1835 and 1881. This rifle features a heavy rifled octagonal barrel, top flat stamped "P. SMITH/ BUFFALO/N.Y." Small post front sight, notched rear sight. Flat percussion lockplate with stamp-engraved designs at tail. Walnut half-stock with, pewter forend cap. Brass triggerguard, buttplate, and lock retaining screw escutcheon. Fair condition, lock and shortened barrel have a mix of dark and light patina, some scattered freckling, especially on lockplate and at breech. The muzzle has been polished and brass furniture retains a mellow patina. One ramrod ferrule is a replacement. Stock refinished and with a few small repairs, chipping and a crack at front of lock tang, a repaired break in the wrist, and an extra cross pin hole. Lock functions well.
