Manufactured 1897. Tapered octagon barrel, chambered for the 30-30 Winchester cartridge. Full deluxe variation with take down, half magazine and deluxe checkered pistol grip stocks with Marlin hard rubber butt plate. Case colored receiver with blue finished barrel and magazine assemblies. The Marlin 1893 was an outstanding development for Marlin. Superior in strength to the Winchester and ejected from the side. Staying in production with very few modifications the 1893 has been the most successful item produced by Marlin. Deluxe variations are uncommon and this rifle has a sporting front sight, elevator adjustable rear sight and folding Lyman tang sight. Top barrel flat marked with two line Marlin address and 30-30 caliber designation over chamber. Left barrel flat marked in stylized script "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL". Case colored receiver marked "MARLIN SAFETY" on top. Two piece American walnut stocks are nicely figured and have fine factory checkering at wrist and forearm. Case colors on receiver are faded but vivid in more protected areas. Factory applied blue finish on barrel amounts to over 90% with small areas of finish loss due to moister exposure. Magazine retains 40% factory applied blue finish with the same mottled patina due to prior moister exposure. Stocks are excellent with mostly all varnish remaining and sharp checkering, slight finish loss as is expected is found at wrist and base of forearm as well as confluence of receiver and forearm cap. Bore is very good with strong rifling and slight frosting in grooves. Mechanics are crisp and action is tight. Rifle takes down handily and is a very attractive, honest example.
