Mid 19th century, The Shop of Samuel Robb, New York City, New York. The figure carved with headband and earrings rendered with long straight black hair, red cape, decorated tunic, leggings and moccasins. She is holding a bundle of cigars and a package marked "Tobacco" in her right arm, a pouch in her left hand by her side. Carved standing on a square base within a simple painted frame, "CIGARS" painted on the side. This lot is offered with a square paint decorated box base with carrying handles, decorated overall with simulated wood grain. Figure is 42-1/2" tall x 14-1/2" wide x 15" deep. Box base is 16" x 23" x 23". This lot is accompanied by an original bill of sale from Oliver Clark, New York City, New York. Carving retains what is likely original painted surface with normal and expected soiling and weathering. An old stable vertical shrinkage split at the back of the figure. Normal and expected deterioration to the plinth base on the figure. Box base with original decoration. Overall good original untouched with desirable "crusty" surface.
