This artillery powder horn is fitted with of two brass bands, one retaining its original swivel for a sling or carrying strap. The often missing brass charger is complete and present, in functional condition. Both bands and the charger are decorated with tool lines. This horn has the usual concave butt plug and its original, turned and threaded knob. This bulbous, vase and ring shaped knob is decorated with several tool lines. The wooden plug is attached with brass pins. It appears to be British, and was most likely made and carried in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. This horn measures 15 - 1/2 " overall.
For a similar example, see page 101 of Madison Grant's book "Powder Horns and Their Architecture".
Condition: Very Good, as described. The entire horn, including mounts, appears to be uncleaned and displays a nice patina. The plug has several chips missing from the outer edge of rim.
