Approximately 163,600 made for the U.S. Army chambered in .45 ACP or the .45 Auto Rim cartridge. Manufactured from September 17th, 1917 to January of 1919. The factory blue was a slightly lighter shade than commercial but a much more finely finished gun than its Colt counterpart. Features six shot, double action, case colored hammer and trigger, lanyard right and plain oiled walnut grips. Matching serial number on frame, cylinder and extractor. Left side of the frame has the military cartouche "GHS" for Gilbert Stewart. Bottom of barrel stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and butt stamped "US ARMY MODEL 1917". Sides of the humpback case colored hammer have the oil serrations and case colors are still brilliant on both hammer and trigger. Gun shows some high edge muzzle wear, light cylinder line, light wear to left side of barrel and some light high edge cylinder wear with small storage marks. 98% overall finish showing little to no signs of having been used which is rare, given its early war-time production. Grips are near mint. Mechanically as new with near mint bore. As the majority of these saw service, they were often stored in holsters.
