Only about 1700 of these interesting rifles were made, all chambered for the Lee Navy cartridge. This is of standard configuration with tapered barrel fitted with standard sporting rear, and German silver blade front sights. Serial number is on top of receiver ring. Left side has Winchester name, address, and patent dates; the last of which is '95. This repeating rifle took a steel stripper clip type holding five cartridges. Plain American walnut semi-pistol grip stock has finger groove, Schnabeled forend, and steel trap buttplate (trap for holding cleaning equipment). Excellent condition retaining approximately 95% original blue, most loss due to flaking and spotting on top left action, and at trigger guard bow with cleaned and re-colored surfaces. Stock retains over 95% original finish. Bore is dark, may clean. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection. CORRECTION: Factory Letter states serial No. 10553 was shipped July 24th, 1897 as "type: rifle".
