Lightweight sporter barrel with sleeved-on sling eye is engraved "No. 2708 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York, N.Y." on top. Caliber is at breech end. Model 70 action has had bolt removal button enhanced and checkered and Redfield bases installed. Bolt has had body and extractor engine turned, knob with five panel checkering. Bottom metal has button release in trigger guard bow. Superb full fiddle figured and nicely streaked European walnut stock measures 13-5/8" over Neidner checkered steel buttplate. Stock has traditional '50's styling with swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece with ebony forend tip and well cut point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip and around forend. Other features include traditional steel grip cap, sling eye, and a gold oval on toe line engraved "S. E. L". A Leupold 2X7 Vari-X II scope with duplex reticle is in Redfield rings. Excellent condition. Metal parts retain nearly all of their custom blue with one or two light marks. Stock has nearly all of its original finish, but with a number of fairly heavy knocks and dings, one at bottom left side grip checkering, another left side toward action, as well as a 1/2" dig in front of bolt handle. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. Scope is excellent, optically clear. Weight with scope: 8 lbs 9 oz. A very attractive custom rifle by this iconic maker. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection. CORRECTION: Includes receipt from Champlin Firearms dated 1987. This rifle, serial No. 174674, a Griffin & Howe custom Model 70 was sold for $3,000.
