Lightweight barrel is fitted with typical banded-on sling eye and front ramp with knurled sight protector over gold bead. Top of barrel is engraved "No 2086 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York" and has caliber at left rear. 98 action with stippled receiver ring has been fitted with Griffin & Howe side scope mount and Lyman 48 sight (presently fitted with blank slide). Bolt body, extractor, and follower have been engine turned. Bolt handle forged down for low scope mounting. Knob checkered in two panels. Flag safety and military trigger have been retained. Military bottom metal has had trigger guard bow thinned and slimmed. Front portion of floorplate checkered. Lightly marbled and figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip stock measures 13-1/2" over Model 70 type checkered steel buttplate. Stock features classic Griffin & Howe styling with swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece, horn forend tip, and well cut point pattern checkering at grip and forend. A sling eye and vacant silver oval are on toe line. Excellent condition. Metal parts retain over 95% factory finish with some high edge wear and some scattered freckles. Stock retains nearly all of its original hand rubbed oil finish with some light marks. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. Scope is excellent. Mauser rifles by Griffin & Howe are quite a bit rarer than Springfields. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
