The assembly number 388 with a star can be found stamped in crane, 228 with star under barrel and a star on trigger guard. The star usually indicates the gun has been returned to the factory for some reason. Obviously this gun was in a holster as the barrel retains 30% of the bright royal blue with the balance a soft grey patina. Cylinder and frame retain 95% blue of the brilliant royal blue with a bit of thinning on grip straps. Colt composition grips are near mint. Hammer, trigger and screws retain virtually all of their Nitre blue finish. This was Colt's first swing-out cylinder model and as such is difficult to find with so much factory blue finish. Fire blue on hammer is spectacular. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
