A mere 38,000 of this model were manufactured and only 27,999 through the end of the Civil War, compared to 215,348 Model 1851 Navy's and over 200,000 1860 Army's; making this one of the scarcer Civil War issue Colts. This fine example retains a fine amount of original color and finish. The barrel retains approximately 30% of the original brilliant Colt factory blue with the balance simply flaked to soft patina mixed with blue and razor sharp barrel legends. You will find matching serial number on the wedge, barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. The cylinder shows nearly 100% roll engraved Naval battle scene, has all original nipples, safety pins are worn and no original finish, just soft patina. The lever and hammer retain generous amounts of case colors. Left side of the frame retains 30% case colors, some brilliant, and a little less on right side. Trigger guard and backstrap retain 75% original plating over brass. Grips are near mint with most of the original varnish and perfectly fitted. Revolver indexes and locks up like new with a strong, clean bore. A far above average example of a scarce mid-war 1961 Navy revolver. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
