It is estimated approximately 4,000 of these were manufactured between 1882 and 1886. It is numbered within the New Line and New House pistols. Has the two line Hartford address on top of barrel. Etched panel reads "NEW POLICE 38" on left side is very crisp. Only model with ejector rod standard. The Colt gutta percha grips feature a cop and a thug, one of the more popular features of this model. It is a five shot, single action spur trigger in basically grey patina overall. Still has fire blue on back of hammer, traces of blue on frame and fire blue on screws. Indexes and locks up fine. Strong, clean bore. Very scarce and desirable little handgun. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
