Round barrel, half-magazine with blued forend cap, blued receiver, case colored hammer lever with a Nitre blued trigger, blued steel buttplate, mounted with deluxe wood with checkering and sling eye on bottom of stock and also attached to bottom of forearm. Sights are a beaded front sight with flat top sporting rear sight. A splendid extra lightweight takedown rifle with factory research certificate denoting configuration as: caliber .45-70, round barrel, 22", extra light, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, sights, semi-Jack front Winchester High Velocity, half magazine, shotgun butt, takedown, screw eyes for sling, received in warehouse August 24th, 1906 and shipped same day. Standard two line address on barrel with 96-98% barrel blue with 97-98% forend cap blued. Takedown color 98% blued. Left side of receiver is 98-99% blue with one surface scratch on rear of receiver. Right side with a few surface scratches but retains 98% blue, with polishing marks on left and right side. Loading gate is of a dark Nitre blue but has 70% blue remaining. All screw heads look to have been turned but not damaged. Case color on hammer is at 95%. Lower tang marked "652XX", but numbers were X'ed out and new set applied "135". Buttplate is marked "12697", it does not match lower tang or upper channel of stock. Number for stock appears to be "657" with last number being an overstamp. Rifle comes with XX grade of wood, "H" style checkering with surface impressions and surfaces scratches on bottom of stock near buttplate. Right side of stock also has surfaces scratches with some specks of finish flaking off on bottom of stock. Wood to metal fit is very fine with no chips of wood missing or any cracks evident around the tang. Overall it would rate a 95% finish on the stock. Condition of checkering is very fine with no bruise marks within checkering, either on left or right side. Forearm has some surface scratches and impressions all around forend cap. Few bruise marks in the checkering, no chips of wood missing, no cracks, grade 95-97% finish remains on forearm. Bore is bright with sharp rifling and shiny, cycles correctly. Mechanics are fine. A very fine documented extra light takedown rifle. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
