Tapered round barrel chambered for .30-Gov't-06 cartridge, Lyman blade front sight with elevator adjustable rear sight with checkered sides, two piece highly figured American walnut stocks with factory "B" relief carving at wrist and forearm and hard rubber shotgun butt. Blue finish overall with gold border inlaid bands at breech, front of receiver, and rear of receiver. Masterfully game scene engraved with a moose on right side of receiver and bear on left side of receiver. The game scenes are surrounded by a scroll and vine pattern with a chased intertwined loop rope border. The engraving further encompasses the bolt and receiver ring with the same tight scrolls and a lesser chiseled border. The lever extension has a matching amount of embellishment with a simple chiseled border and a floral arabesque pattern with a lightly shaded background. Hammer and tang to rear of hammer are embellished in the same manner with a lesser degree of flair. This outstanding Winchester 1895 is one of the most elaborately engraved rifles from this period. Similar rifles where presented by Theodore Roosevelt and for Royalty of India. Very fine overall with small traces of finish loss at high points of receiver above hammer. Muzzle has very minor finish loss from storage. All gold inlay is stable and present. Wood stocks are very fine with several minute bruises and small scratches but all appear to be period. Bore is excellent and mechanics are in proper order. The only factory information available; Serial No. 419898 was applied February 16th, 1924. An outstanding example of the Winchester Repeating arms highly embellished arms and is from the noted collection of Ray Bentley.
