21" closed mouth doll, with typical Tete Jumeau features, having very nice blue paperweight eyes, well painted lashes, and multi stroke, evenly arched eyebrows, closed mouth with bee-stung upper lip and highlighted nostrils, with a red stamp on the back of the head of the head with "9" and some artist's signatures. Above the nine is a white space which would have shown the full Jumeau marking, however, it was removed with acid, and it knows to collectors as a "scrub mark", or a"Bebe Reclame". The reasoning for this feature is that in the 1890's, Jumeau over-produced the Tete Jumeau dolls, and in order to sell them at a discount, sold in bulk to various Paris toy stores. They were in turn sold as dolls with the name of the toy store, such as "Bebe Printemps", etc. She is on her original French wood and composition body, with the blue stamp on the back of the torso reading "Jumeau Medaille D'or Paris". Body finish is mostly original with some re-paint on lower arms and hands. Costume consists of a nicely made French style heavy blue velvet drop waist costume, with paler blue braid trim, lace edging, with dark blue velvet hat with feathers and cloth flowers. Stockings and underwear are old, however, the white leather shoes are probably from the 1940's of 50's.
