A charming French musical automata, circa late 19th century, depicting a young male student seated atop of his school desk with a school lesson in his left hand. In a quandary, he studies his lesson book, somewhat confused he turns & lowers his head, raising his right arm to his brow all while kicking his left foot & his “donkey ears” twitching to and fro. The glass eyed papier mache head is in excellent original finish, the original clothing has some wear/distress most notably to his pants, the bisque hands are intact with no damage and the desk retains its original finish as well. A classic automata with 5 distinct actions, overall in very fine plus all original condition.
