Referred to as the Contract Model 1927. In 1927-28, the Argentine Army ordered 10,000 Colt Model 1911A1's to be built at Hartford and shipped; following this contract, the Argentine government licensed the 1911A1 for production at Rosario, Argentina at the government factory. The Argentine government built 74,866 pistols at the Domingo Matheu factory in Rosario. They are, in essence, a Colt clone with several minor differences, most of which are aesthetic. Gun (A) is an interesting pistol made near the end of production, factory built as a .22 caliber for the Buenos Aires Provincial Police Department. Stamped on right side of slide "POLICIA DE LA PROVINCIA DE BUENOS AIRES TRANSF. A. CAL. 22 L.R. POR EST. VENTURINI S.A." Matching numbers can be found on frame and top and right slide of slide. Left side of slide stamped "D.G.F.M. [F.M.A.P.]". Has all the pre-war style Colt checkered small parts to include short trigger, wide spur hammer and arched mainspring housing. Special .22 magazine. Replaced black checkered hard rubber grips. Pistol retains 98% of the expertly reapplied blued finish. Fine bore and action. Gun (B) is one of the first 10,000 made at the Colt factory in Hartford and stamped as "EJERCITO ARGENTINO COLT CAL. 45 MOD 1927" with the Argentine crest. Matching serial number on frame, right and top of slide and barrel. Colt address on left side of slide. Features all Colt pre-war checkered parts to include short trigger, wide spur hammer and mainspring housing with loop. Sports the correct checkered walnut stocks. This pistol, while all legends are sharp as new, wears a military matte parkerized finish with a distinct temper line at forward area of slide. Retains 90% of this matte parkerized finish. Due to the rather low production of 10,000 pistols and the hard use usually seen on South American guns, this true Colt manufactured Argentina pistol is rather difficult to locate. Strong bore and action. It is a foreign contract variation that is needed in every 1911 collection.
