Part octagon, part round barrel is marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y." on top flat. Caliber marking is on bottom. A windage adjustable spirit level sight No. 578 is installed. Case hardened side lever action is marked "HEPBURNS PAT" and with date on left side. Serial number is on bottom tang. Top tang is fitted with Vernier mid range sight with 3" staff. Breech block, hammer and trigger are blued. Nicely streaked and fiddle figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 13-3/4" over nickel-plated Swiss buttplate, and features large swept right hand cheekpiece and multi-point pattern checkering at grip. Matching forend has nickel-plated schnabeled tip. Excellent, appears to be nearly all original. Barrel retains approximately 90% original blue with sharp edge wear and some scattered flecking. Action retains 85-90% original case hardening color, silvered on edges and thinning where not protected by original lacquer. Blued parts retain approximately 80% of their original finish, again with sharp edge wear and scattered flecking. Stocks retain over 90% original French polish with numerous light marks and a few marks and dents. Checkering lightly worn. There is a 1" x 1/4" dent flattening diamonds in checkering on right grip. Bore is excellent. Action is excellent. A fine Hepburn target rifle in a readily available classic caliber. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
