R.F. Sedgley built a cottage business in Philadelphia during the 1930's with the manufacture of custom bolt action sporting rifles utilizing surplus U.S. Springfield Model 1903 actions. He applied the new barrels stamped with his name, along with sights and custom walnut classic period stocks. Features include: full round barrel, hooded ramp front sight, sling eye sleeve on front barrel, Lyman 48 receiver sight, straight comb checkered walnut stock with roll over cheek piece, checkered steel buttplate, rear sling eye, composite grip cap and black forend tip. The front bridge of receiver and barrel have been tapped and plugged for A-O scope bases 6 - 1/8" on center. These Springfield markings on receiver bridge have been stippled out. Barrel retains approximately 98% of the period custom applied blued finish. Frame retains 70% blue finish. The walnut stock has a few light impressions, otherwise is near mint. Floorplate and trigger guard retains 99% blue. Fine action and strong bore. A beautiful custom pre-war Sedgley in an unheard of caliber. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
