Round barrel with full length matted rib is fitted with one standing, two nested leaf express rear sight, Fraser scope bases, and silver bead front sight. Unmatted portion is engraved "D. & J. Fraser", "4 Leith St Terrace" and "Edinburgh". Small sized action has sliding safety in front of trigger and serrated thumb piece operating lever on right side. Action is engraved with near full coverage very nicely cut small shaded scroll within scroll borders. Serial number is on scroll engraved trigger guard. Receiver ring is engraved with "Fraser's Patent" and use number "No 166". Barrel takes down by removing forend, driving out pin which is under barrel right to left, opening action and unscrewing barrel. Well marbled European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-1/4" over checkered steel buttplate. Stock features thin shadow line right hand cheekpiece and point pattern checkering at grip. Matching forend has horn tip, fluted in Alexander Henry style, and removes for barrel takedown with Deeley release. This rifle is accompanied by a numbers matching second barrel caliber .290 or 7.65 chamber is unknown. Finish is very fine with slight finish loss at edges of muzzle. Bore is very fine with what appears to be Metford rifling. Fine condition. Barrel retains most of what appears to be its original blue with some cleaned pitting under forend toward breech end. Action retains traces of original case hardening color. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original finish with oil added over a number of marks and stains, a few fairly heavy. There is some insect damage to forend tip. Metford bore is very fine, lightly frosted. Action is smooth. Weight: 5 lbs. 7 oz. A superb lightweight deer rifle in a caliber nearly equal to the 38/55. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection. CORRECTION: Stock has evidence of an expertly repaired crack at wrist that is visible on the right side toward tang and comb.
