Standard features include full octagon barrel, full magazine, ivory bead, sporting rear, blue finish, cased colored hammer, walnut stock, rifle butt, checkered two piece walnut forend. The barrel and tube retain fully 95%+ factory blue. The frame which is done in a higher polish factory royal blue finish with a sharp pony stamped on left side, visable case colors on extractor on both sides, remains at approximately 85% bright mirror blue. The left side of the frame has some usual finish striations. The right side has about 30% flaking, not from use, simply flaking. The entire visable bottom of frame plus pump arm, trigger guard, and rear tang retain 85% bright blue mixed with light toning and freckling. The buttplate retains 85% bright factory blue. Walnut stock has the raised grain, checkering on forearm is sharp as new. Majority of screws are unadulterated and sharp. All lines and legends are razor sharp. Bore looks new. In fact, this rifle appears as if unfired. With most wear simply natural aging process, about as sharp as them come. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection. CORRECTION: The Colt Factory letter states: Serial No. 4947 was shipped on October 2nd, 1890 to William R. Burkhard of St. Paul, Minnesota in a shipment of two guns listed as blued finish, wood stocks, octagon barrel in caliber .45/85/285. Burkhard owned a sporting goods store in St. Paul.
