Lightweight barrel has sleeved-on block for one standing, one folding leaf rear sight and classic front ramp, with silver bead and slip-on knurled sight protector. Top of barrel is engraved "No 261 GRIFFIN & HOWE Inc NEW YORK". Caliber is at left rear. Intermediate length Model 98 action has stippled receiver ring with bridge cut for receiver sight staff, right side drilled and tapped for base. Bolt with damascened body and extractor has had Model 70 type handle added with three raised checkered panels on knob. Shroud has been cut for Model 70 type safety. Original single pull trigger has checkered finger blade and original bottom metal has military style floorplate. Classically styled stock of fancy Claro walnut with fine fiddle figure, measures 13-3/8" over checkered and engraved steel buttplate with trap, and features right hand shadow line cheekpiece, schnabeled forend tip, steel grip cap, sling eyes and well cut point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Excellent, as completely restored. All metal parts retain nearly all correct style rust blue. Newly made stock retains nearly all of its original hand rubbed oil finish, with a number of light bumps and marks, most notably two scuffs on cheekpiece. Bore is excellent. Action is smooth. Weight: 6 lbs 12 oz. A light and handy rifle. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
