Slightly tapered round barrel is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION. N.Y." on top. It is fitted with adjustable spirit level front sight numbered "312". Caliber marking is on bottom of barrel. Large case hardened rolling block action has serial number on bottom tang and patent dates on left side. Top tang is fitted with 5" Vernier long range sight. Hammer, block and trigger are blued. Nicely marbled and figured European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over checkered hard rubber buttplate. A decorative piece of horn is inlet in scrolled bottom of grip (original hard rubber inlay missing). Checkering is of modified point pattern. A back position sight base is installed at rear of comb. Matching forend with composition tip, screws to barrel. Fine to very fine original condition. Barrel retains 60 - 70% original blue with considerable loss due to patches of browning, thinning overall from normal hand and cleaning wear. Action retains most of its original case hardening color, faded and with some brown spots. Blue on hammer and block rates about 80%. Stocks retain most of their original finish with added oil over numerous marks, some fairly deep, checkering is worn. Bore is excellent, shiny throughout with the exception of a slight ring about 4" ahead of chamber which should not affect accuracy. Sights are good to fine. This beautiful old classic should be lots of fun to shoot. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
