The long barrel Lightning is somewhat of an anomaly because the purpose of this revolver was as a pocket gun, but the 6" barrel made it a holster gun. These long barrel holster Lightnings were very popular with women and men of small stature at the turn of the century on the Western ranches. This example features six shot, double action, blue and case colored finish, and Colt logo black composite bird's head grips. Given these pistols were intended to be worn in a holster, they seldom survived with any condition. The barrel and end of ejector housing have a touch of wear. Cylinder has light high edge wear. Front grip strap is a homogenous blue and brown patina with bright blue showing through. Backstrap is 60% blue mixing with patina. Brilliant blue on top flat. Bright fire blue on all the screws, back of hammer and trigger. 50% case colors on right side that are bright and traces of left side, with the balance simply patterned out to a soft grey. Near mint grips. Indexes like new. Strong, clean rifled bore. A love, high condition example of 6" holster model Colt Lightning revolver. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
