Made in unknown quantities between the mid 1840-1849's by Waters. This model is an enigma, as this was never an officially adopted or issued pistol. It was made in percussion, using most other parts from the Model 1836 pistol. This model has some importance as it was made between the last flintlock martial pistol and the first adopted percussion pistol, the Model 1842. Some collectors feel that it was the maker's attempt to get government contracts. Round smoothbore steel barrel is unmarked and has a small brass half moon front sight and oval rear sight mounted on the tang. Flat percussion lockplate stamped in the center with an eagle's head and "A.H. WATERS & Co./MILBURY MASS", 1842 style rounded hammer with nipple in barrel. Standard steel Model 1836 furniture. Swivel type ramrod with button plunger. Plain walnut half-stock devoid of cartouches. Good condition, barrel and furniture have been cleaned bright and have some scattered marks from use and light freckling. Lock retain silvered case colored patina, hammer possibly replaced. Stock very good with a few scattered light marks from use. Functions well and has excellent lock markings. This is a particularly unusual example.
