28" Chopper lump barrels fitted with slightly raised flat matted rib, are engraved "Armi Fabbri. Brecia. MADE IN ITALY" on side of left barrel, and "MADE ESPECIALLY FOR DOROTHY MARTIN" on right. Barrel flats are stamped with 1958 Italian nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Bottom of rear lump is marked "TIPO PICCIONE EXTRA". Case hardened back spring sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features non-automatic safety and single non-selective trigger. Water table is also stamped with makers name, gun type, serial number, and proofs. Action is engraved with full coverage exceptionally well cut swagged sprays of flowers and ribbons, all in a small scroll background, as tastefully and classically executed by F. Iora. (Ferruccio Iora. This noted engraver’s “smoke” of the engraving pattern used on this gun, is illustrated as figure 110 in MODERN FIREARMS ENGRAVINGS by Mario Abbiatico.) His signature is on trigger plate. Bottom of action has makers name and address on scrolled ribbon. Top lever and small bow trigger guard are engraved to match. Serial number in on short tang. Classically marbled and lightly figured European walnut Prince of Wales capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over checkered wood butt, and features drop points, point pattern checkering at grip, and a gold oval on toe line engraved with monogram "J C S" (?). Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release has relief gold rose inlaid on blued tip, and inlet gold pigeon at bottom rear. Gun is accompanied by high quality dark brown oak and leather case by Galco. Case has brass corners and greenish canvas outer cover. Interior is lined in green suede, and contains gold plated accessories including pair of snap caps, square oil bottle, and desiccant container. Also included is a two piece brass and rosewood cleaning rod. Excellent, though with evidence of considerable use. Barrels retain over 97% of what appears to be original blue with some silvering and light marks. Action retains approximately 70% original case hardening color, silvered on beads, fences, and lightening on bottom. Lockplates retain nearly all of their original color. Blue of top lever considerably silvered on thumbpiece and turning to purple. Trigger guard blue is silvered on tang. Stocks retain nearly all of what appears to be their original finish with some added oil, checkering slightly worn. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny, but slightly rivelled. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works. Case is fine, straps and handle strong. Interior is also fine, as are accessories. An unusual lightweight gun by this renowned maker.
