28" Acme steel barrels have unmarked matted rib. Barrel flats are stamped with all correct markings with "A" for steel type, along with Parker overload proofs, and '50's vintage Remington repair code "CRR" (?). Splinter is of reinforced type. 0 Frame case hardened action with well filed beads around fences has all correct markings on water table, and features automatic safety and Parker single selective trigger. Action is engraved in typical late Parker "B" style with nicely detailed bird scenes on sides; quail on left, and pheasant on right surrounded by near full coverage well cut scroll within geometric borders. "PARKER" is on bottom of action. Trigger plate has interesting pointer and flushing quail scene surrounded by scroll. Trigger guard with matching scroll on bow has serial number on tang. Boldly fiddle figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-15/16" over skeleton steel buttplate. Composition grip cap has large gold oval inset in bottom which is engraved "W. A. BETCHIEL Jr" "1938" "SAN FRANCISCO". Stock also features typical "B" style checkered side panels and carved Fleur-di-lis drop points, as well as fancy pattern checkering at grip, which has flourishes toward comb. Long beavertail ejector forend has correct reinforcing bolt, and matching well cut checkering. Gun is accompanied by 2008 dated invoice with a sales price of $59,900.00. Excellent condition as partially refinished, barrels retaining over 98% sympathetic re-black over two dings on left side of rib, with some subsequent scattered marks. Action retains approximately 80% original case hardening color, silvered on high edges and lightening to pewter gray at normal wear points on bottom and front of trigger plate. Forend iron and latch retain a considerable amount (over 50%) original case hardening color. Trigger guard retains approximately 80% of what appears to be its original bright blue, most loss due to some flaking on tang. Stocks retain over 90% original varnish, slightly worn through on sharp edges of comb and forend, both with a number of light marks and scratches, with some fairly deep vertical marks on right and left sides of butt. Checkering is slightly worn, still relatively light in color, and has not been re-cut. Bores are excellent plus, bright, smooth, and shiny throughout. Action is tight, barrels are on face. Mechanically excellent. THE PARKER STORY estimates that a total of 109 20 gauge BHE Parkers were made, 29 with 28" barrels. The Parker Gun identification and serialization ledger, lists this gun as having ejectors and single trigger, and with straight grip, but does not indicate a beavertail forend. A superb high condition, high grade, attractive small bore Parker. CORRECTION: Parker Gun Collectors Association Research letter confirms this gun in its current configuration.
