(1906) This scarce gun, with an estimated 1,193 made in 12 gauge with 30" barrels out of a total production of 1397, is one of 847 also equipped with auto-ejectors. It has 30" barrels with concave matted rib fitted with two ivory beads. "HUNTER ARMS CO MAKERS FULTON N.Y." is engraved on unmatted rectangle toward rear. Rear portion of rib separated by a gold band, is engraved with a pigeon perched on a limb. Barrel flats are stamped with serial number and grade. Nitro steel marks are on bottoms of barrels. Case hardened standard weight sidelock action features non-automatic safety and single selective Hunter One trigger. Action is engraved in typical "pigeon" style with sprays of scroll within line and geometric borders. Lockplates are engraved with scenes of pigeons; left plate with bird on ground, trees in background. Right plate depicts pigeon in flight. Very nicely veined an lightly fiddle figured dark European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14" over open sided Hawkins pad. Matching splinter ejector forend with inlet ebony tip has usual J-spring release with knurled secondary release in guitar shaped escutcheon. Comes with L.C. Smith Collectors Association letter. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels retain approximately 95% original blue with sharp edge wear and some silvering at muzzles, and some scattered scratches, mostly on left barrel. Action retains 80-85% original case hardening color, thinning and silvered on fences and around bottom from normal hand wear. Lockplates retain over 90% of their original color. Trigger guard retains about 70% of its original blue, flaked and silvered on tang. Stocks retain 90% original varnish with minor handling wear, and a couple of deep knocks, mostly on left side of butt. Checkering lightly worn and dark. There is a repaired crack in stock on left lower horn running from center of lockplate back to center of trigger plate, which does not flex. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Trigger fires left barrel only and selector will not move. (Set in left barrel first mode.) Screw-heads show some use. A very attractive, scarce L. C. Smith. MGM159
