Fitted with 27-1/2" barrels, this gun has a matted rib marked "Pour Poudres Vives" and "Anc. EAtabl Pieper Herstal Belgique" and small brass front bead. Sideplate action with side clips is nicely engraved with light floral scroll engraving and stamped "Bayard" with trademark horseman on sides. Bottom of action is lightly scroll and floral engraved as is trigger guard bow. Splinter forend is checkered in four point pattern with push button release. Buttstock is checkered in two point pattern with ball grip and is mounted with sling swivel on bottom and terminates in lined HRBP. Bottom rib mounted with sling swivel. CONDITION: Very good to excellent overall. Barrels retain about 70% of their original blued finish with some minor spotting and beginning pin prick erosion on left tube near breech and grip area. Bores are bright and shiny with beginning orange peel in both tubes. Action retains about 60% original color with colors more toned on right side, particularly bold on left, and beginning toning on bottom. Buttstock retains most of what appears to be its original finish with minor handling marks. The buttplate is very good and shows minor old repair at top. Forend is good and sound and retains most of its original finish. Mechanics are very good. These small bore hammer guns are just a hoot and they are rarely offered for sale at an affordable price. CORRECTION: Ever so slightly off-face.
