A total of about 65,000 of this model were manufactured between 1889 and 1893. Blued barrel with all correct proofs at breech and 1884 Buffington rear sight. Casehardened block is stamped "U.S. MODEL 1884". Lockplate is stamped with a large eagle and "U.S. SPRINGFIELD.". Walnut stock has a "S.W.P. 1892" cartouche for inspector Sam W. Porter and with an encircled script "P" behind triggerguard tang. Fire blue on retainer springs and blued standard furniture, buttplate tang stamped "U.S.". Features a serrated trigger. Excellent, unissued condition inside and out. Retains 98% plus blued and casehardened finishes with some minor scattered surface freckling on furniture. All markings are excellent. Stock is excellent to near mint with deeply stamped clear cartouche. Fine strong action. Strong, clean, near mint bore. A very clean unissued 1888 Trapdoor. From the Jim Linton Collection.
